Greece is home to approximately 11 million people and welcomes more than 35 million visitors each year. Known for its beautiful coastline, rich history, vibrant culture, and warm hospitality, Greece is a remarkable place to live and work. At the same time, many people face significant economic challenges that have created uncertainty about the future, particularly among young adults as they consider education, employment, and life after graduation.

Athens is home to more than 200,000 university students from across Greece. Many are navigating important life decisions while looking for meaningful community, trusted mentors, and lasting friendships. This stage of life presents a unique opportunity to invest in students as they prepare for their future and contribute to their communities.

Campus Outreach SERVE began work in Athens in 2024 through a partnership with the Evangelical Church of Greece and the Pangrati Project. The team is committed to understanding the culture and building long-term relationships while gaining a deeper understanding of university life in Athens. Because Greek universities have little residential campus life, developing meaningful connections with students requires patience, creativity, and a long-term perspective.

Although many Greeks speak conversational English, daily life takes place in Greek. Language proficiency is essential for building trust, participating fully in community life, and developing lasting relationships. Future team members will devote time to learning Greek while also investing in university students through friendship, mentoring, and community involvement.

Relocating to Athens is both exciting and challenging. It requires flexibility, perseverance, and a genuine desire to learn from the people and culture of Greece. Our vision is to see a growing network of healthy relationships that serves university students, strengthens the local community, and contributes to the long-term flourishing of Athens for many years to come.
